I Wanted Something Different
After trekking in popular places like Annapurna and Everest, I wanted something quieter. Something wilder. That’s when I heard about the Manaslu Circuit Trek. People said it was less crowded but just as beautiful. They said it was harder, but the rewards were bigger. Snowy peaks, peaceful villages, and a high mountain pass that would take my breath away. I was ready. So, I grabbed my backpack and joined a small group of trekkers for a journey I will never forget.
What Is the Manaslu Circuit Trek?
The Manaslu Circuit Trek is a loop trail around Mount Manaslu, the eighth highest mountain in the world. It’s not as famous as Everest or Annapurna, but that’s part of what makes it special. The trail takes you through quiet mountain villages, deep green valleys, and high alpine landscapes. It feels untouched. Pure. You’ll meet people who live in stone houses and follow ancient customs. It’s a mix of natural beauty and rich culture you won’t find anywhere else.

Walking Where Few Walk
We began our trek in a town called Soti Khola. At first, the trail passed through rice fields and little villages. We crossed swinging bridges and walked along rivers. It felt like a jungle at times hot, green, and full of life. Each day, we went higher. The air became cooler. The views opened up. We passed waterfalls, cliffs, and prayer wheels turning slowly in the wind. Most days, we walked five to seven hours. Some days felt easy. Others were a real challenge. But always, there was something beautiful waiting around the corner.
Climbing to Larkya La Pass
The hardest day was the climb to Larkya La Pass the highest point of the trek. We woke before sunrise. It was cold and windy. The sky was still dark when we started walking. Step by step, we made our way up the snowy trail. My legs felt heavy. My head ached from the thin air. But I kept going. At the top, I stood still. The wind was strong, but the view was stronger. Mountains in every direction. White peaks shining in the morning sun. I was tired. I was freezing. But I was happy. It felt like standing at the edge of the world.
The People Made It Special
The trail was beautiful, yes but it was the people who made it special. We stayed in small tea houses where families cooked for us and shared their stories. They were kind, calm, and strong. Life in the mountains is not easy, but they always smiled. We also met other trekkers from different countries. At night, we played cards, told jokes, and shared stories by the fire. Even though we were far from home, it felt like we were all part of the same team.
What I Learned on the Trail
The Manaslu Circuit Trek taught me to slow down. To enjoy the little things. A hot cup of tea. A warm blanket. A deep breath of clean mountain air. It also reminded me how big and beautiful the world is and how small my worries can be when I’m walking under the sky. This trek wasn’t just about mountains. It was about discovery. About pushing myself, making new friends, and feeling connected to something greater.
Would I Do It Again?
Yes, without a doubt. The Manaslu Circuit Trek is a hidden gem in Nepal. It’s hard, yes but that’s what makes it so special. You earn every view. You feel every moment. If you want a real adventure in the Himalayas, far from the crowds, this is the trek for you.
